Cora Williams

WAIT A MINUTE... WHO ARE YOU?

I'm Cora (she/her), and this is my website! Not too sure what you're doing here but here are some things about me!

I'm a graphic design student at the University of Tennessee (the one in Knoxville) (a.k.a. the real one) I have a lot of interests and hobbies and first-loves like piano, guitar, painting, drawing, crochet, knitting, going on long walks, camping, watching the sunset, jounraling, scrapbooking, pondering, baking, video games (NERD ALERT), people, nature, my cat, my dogs, my family...

MY FAVORITE FONT

I used to be a sans-serif hater, but then I grew up. My current favorite font is Cooper Hewitt, a free, open-source typeface made for the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Musuem. It's also the header font for this webpage!

MY EARLIEST DESIGN MEMORY

My sincere childhood love for HGTV, interior design, and glitter gel pens. I spent hours upon hours drawing on printer paper and taping every singe drawing up onto my childhood bedroom walls... It was a bit excessive.

MY DESIGN AESTHETIC

A quirky (isn’t that a fun word) mish-mash of grunge and modernist aesthetics and sensibilities informed by my many years dedicated to the visual arts.

5 OBJECTS THAT INSPIRE ME

THREE THINGS I SAW TODAY

  • A dog
  • A person with green skin
  • A creepy hallway

MY FAVORITE PARTS OF
DESIGN SCHOOL

Problem solving. Making something out of nothing. Making jokes and references in my work that no one else will get.

DESIGNS IN THE WORLD THAT SURPRISE ME

When I explore people’s neocities websites. There is a proud disregard for what constitutes as “good” website design among them, and most focus far more on bold displays of their owner’s interests and personality. They're like self portraits, except they're portraits of the dark recesses of someone's brain.

WHAT'S INTERACTION DESIGN?

Designing an experience. Designing the way someone could interact with something, and how that something could react in turn.

DESIGNING FOR DIGITAL VS PRINT

When designing for a digital product, you have to consider the different kinds of technology a user may use (and the different ways that could be using them), and design accordingly. Your work needs to be flexible in a multitude of ways.
